Barbaro…Finally Fun in Millbrook
Living in the Hudson Valley for the past 23 years, I’ve visited the quiet little town of Millbrook NY numerous times. I’ve always enjoyed walking along the tree lined main street called Franklin Ave. It’s always fun popping in and out of the locally owned businesses, boutiques, antique stores, and stopping for lunch or dinner at one of the handful of restaurants. All the restaurants in town are pleasant, quiet establishments serving better than average food and providing better than average service. None really had any kind of bar scene. Until Now. BARBARO 3279 Franklin Ave. Finally a semi upscale restaurant with a vibrant fun bar providing excellent food, innovative cocktails, and great service. The wood burning oven provides an extra layer of flavor to many of the menu items. The pizza is thin crusted and flavorful with a great combination of toppings. One of my favorites is the pizza caprina with a fig rosemary spread, Coach Farm goat cheese, pear, arugula, and truffle oil. In addition to the regular dinner menu, there is always a daily specials list containing a pizza, seasonal salad, a fish entree and a risotto of the day. Their pasta combinations are mouth watering and always cooked to perfection. never over-sauced like so many “red sauce” restaurants. Be sure to try the linguini with shrimp, broccoli, and calabrian chilis and pair it glass of Gavi wine. The salads are fresh and colorful and their entrees are perfectly prepared. The portions are generous and well priced. It’s always fun to start at the bar with one of their signature cocktails like the Burnt Venetian, a combination of vodka, aperol, lemon syrup, and prosecco. I can’t say enough about their excellent friendly staff, especially Jessica, Kaitlyn, Amanda and all their servers. Open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner and they now serve Sunday brunch from 11:30. Be sure to try the smoked salmon pizza on an everything bagel crust.
